Jan 17  - Introduction of Guild Officers and      Committee Chairpersons

Workshop for Quilts for Those in NeedShelley Haines will lead us in a workshop to prepare quilts for those in need.  Whether you hand quilt, tie a quilt, machine quilt, cut fabric, batting or prepare a kit, there’s something you can do to help.  Lunch will be provided.  This will be a 3-4 hour workshop, held after the Guild meeting – our first in the Civic Center!  A light lunch will be served. 

Feb 21 - Becky Goldsmith

   "Let’s Talk About Color"

    I'll share with you what I've figured out about color over the years and how I use what I've learned in my quilts.

Friday, February 20 – “Aunt Millie’s Garden” – Hand appliqué the “Piece O’ Cake” method. All skill levels.  Becky will provide a pattern for the block chosen for class.  Students who want to make the whole quilt will need to purchase the book, Aunt Millie’s Garden.   Friday’s class is from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church.  There is a $50 workshop fee.

 The 10 Commandments of Successful Machine Quilting”   (Or How to Persuade a Wayward Quilt to Hang Straight!) 

 

Friday, March 20 – “Trapunto By Machine" - All skill levels. Using     techniques that were pioneered by Hari Walner, Paula teaches you how  to EASILY attain that beautiful raised look without time consuming stuffing or cutting  holes in the back of your work. In 6 hours most participants will complete a 24" project.

Friday’s class is from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church.  There is a $50 workshop fee.

Apr 18 - Cheryl Malkowski

"Trunk Show and Tell”

  Hear about how I came to invent the chenille color stick technique and what the inspiration was for Fun With One Block Quilts.

Saturday from 1 - 4 p.m.  Class fee is $30.00.  $5 Kit fee. Supply list.

QUILT-O-GRAMS.  A fun, fast, fused project made on fast2fuse.  There are several ways to approach this project. Learn easy techniques for      taking an image from photograph to fabric, or play with pre-cut shapes.  Work with shapes to form flowers or abstract art; use a piece of fabric with a fun motif or a child’s drawing!  Made to fit into an envelope.  For those who are interested, some small kits available with shapes precut.

May 16 - Debra Danko

"Flower Power" 

See the creative process that brings nature’s flowers to the over-scale size. View the flower photos that inspired the quilts and in-progress slides of many artistic and sewing techniques she uses.  A trunk show is included.

Friday, May 15, - "Oversized Flower Power" - All skill levels.

Learn Debra’s easy techniques for producing realistic floral quilts with oversized images. Demonstrations in composition, color and fabric painting assist participants to grow in their art knowledge. An original flower drawing is provided; this is developed using contemporary, fast and fusible appliqué methods and innovative art techniques. Students will paint on a smaller sample of scraps with provided teacher supplies. See supply list.  No sewing machine. Friday’s class is from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the New Braunfels Presbyterian Church.  Fees: $50 workshop + $5.00 materials.

Jun 20 - Annette Hendricks 

"Inspirations from a Quilt Artist"

Events, challenges, themes, and fabric design all contribute to the creative process.  Annette shares where she gets her ideas from and encourages you to look for creativity all around you.

Saturday, from 1 - 4 p.m.  Class fee is $30.00.  A sewing machine is required.  See supply list. This Jacket workshop is an opportunity to create wearable art.  It starts with a denim jacket.  I will show the students how to make a pattern that fits within the panels of the jacket….we will design new shapes to fit into the panels…attach the ‘new’ panels and then quilt them to the jacket.  The students will also learn to appli-piece…a curved piecing technique that utilizes freezer paper, starch and mono-filament thread. 

Jul 18 - Kate Ackley

 

"Grandmother's Flower Garden, Yesterday and Today"

From the first mention of the hexagon as a pattern in a pieced quilt, quilters have been fascinated by the endless possibilities using this shape.  Diamonds are a natural companion to the hexagon and many examples are shown in the slides.

 

 Saturday, from 1 - 4 p.m.  Class fee is $30.00.  No sewing machine  required.  Get Ready...Stamp.  Get Set...Cut.  Go...Sew. That's how easy it is to hand piece the "By Kate" method.  Learn hand piecing using stamped fabric, cutting, and sewing.  The workshop will be using the STAR pattern (see Kate's supply list).  A discount on the Starter kit will be offered to workshop attendees for $25.00.  

 

Aug 15 - Brenda Jeschke  "What Does the Judge Look For?"

 

 Saturday, from 1 - 4 p.m.  Class fee is $30.00.  Sewing machine required.  Precision Machine Piecing.  A wonderful piecing workshop where you will make the same block, but there are six different settings.  Two versions and supply lists are available.  Sunny Lanes and Dark Roads  are the same pattern but different colors. Sep 19 - Annette Ornelas

"Dimensional curved piecing or peeled-back patchworkwill transport you into another quilting dimension.  Lecture includes numerous quilts and samples so everyone can see how it  works.

 Saturday, from 1 - 4 p.m.  Class fee is $30.00.  Sewing machine required.  "Caroline Dreaming" a contemporary version of the traditional Carolina lily block.  Students will make a small, square wall hanging with the diamond Carolina Dreaming setting.  Suitable for all levels.  $8.00 pattern fee.  See the Supply List and Settings and Supply List.

Nov 21 - Betsy Chutchian

 

Betsy’s presentation will be based on her new book to be published by the Kansas City Star in October. 

The book's working title is called "Gone to Texas" and is centered around her interpretation of the quilts her great great grandmother talked about in her journals dating 1858-1882.  Supply List
